In conjunction with Coventry Adult Education, Coventry Outdoor Education Service is pleased to announce the launch of the new Level 5 Outdoor Learning Specialist Learning with QTLS.

In the tranquil setting of Coombe Abbey Park, the learning environment is perfectly situated in natural and authentic surroundings. Offering a mix of outdoor and indoor training, the new apprenticeship course is designed to equip education practitioners with the key skills, knowledge and experience to take on a specialist teaching role in education in outdoors within their school or organization.

Research shows that outdoor activities and experiences will lead to learning, improved health and well-being, and environmental awareness. With an outdoor learning specialist in the lead, academic achievement and progress will be enhanced through the creation of experiential and authentic learning experiences, creating strong connections between the outdoor experience and the school curriculum .

Coventry Outdoors helps schools integrate outdoor learning into their curriculum by upskilling an existing staff member (Learning Support Assistant, non-qualified teacher or coach) to deliver outdoor education in whole school, from Forestry School through EYFS and curriculum-based courses through KS1 and KS2, to defined therapeutic interventions for small groups of children or young people.

Councilor Dr Kindy Sandhu, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “This is wonderful new learning which gives people the chance to study and develop in a learning environment. unique.

“The learning will help equip education practitioners with the key skills, knowledge and experience they need to continue to lead in a truly exciting way.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in launching this new initiative and encourage anyone interested to take up this fantastic opportunity.”

The school’s funding requirement corresponds to the cost of the apprentice’s release time, which is one day per week for the duration of the apprenticeship (18 to 24 months). Funding from Sports Premium can be used for this purpose.

Coventry Outdoors are now advertising their next cohort which starts in January 2023. They are accepting expressions of interest and expect places to fill up very quickly so places are limited.
